Tourist Do Not have to Quarantine for 72 hours

Following the cabinet resolutions of 14 December 2021 on measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) would like to inform you that all arriving tourists will be required to take an RT- PCR COVID-19 test on arrival & quarantine at a designated hotel while they wait for their COVID-19 negative results.  Tourists visiting national parks will be exempted from the 72 hours quarantine but will be required to take a mandatory Rapid Antigen or RT-PCR COVID-19 test on a daily basis at their own cost.

Arrival Protocol

All travelers arriving in Rwanda must be tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of departure (meaning that you get tested and get results no more than 3 days before your first flight), complete the passenger locator form, and upload the COVID-19 test certificate. All travelers arriving in Rwanda will be screened upon entry and be given a second test to confirm the negative results of first test done prior to arrival.

• All travelers are required to complete 24 hours in a designated transit hotel while awaiting the results of the second test.
• The Government of Rwanda has negotiated special rates at the designated hotels for the waiting period. Should a guest wish to remain in the hotel after receiving negative test results, they are welcome to extend their stay at the applicable hotel’s rates.
• The negotiated hotel rate is on full board basis (inclusive of three meals) and if a guest takes less than the three meals, no refund will be provided. Any extras will be paid separately order.
• The meals are inclusive of water or soft drinks. Any extras will be paid for separately on order.

While on Safari in Rwanda

The preventive measures announced by the Ministry of Health must be observed by all, especially frequent hand-washing, proper wearing of face masks in public, and maintaining safe physical distance from others (at least one meter apart).

• Regular temperature screening of all guests at different visitor attractions and hotel/lodgings.
• Visitors are required to use cashless transaction methods at all times while on safari, mobile money, and debit/credit cards.
• Cleaning and disinfecting tourist vehicles and boats will regularly done before and after use. Keeping  occupancy at 50% for effective physical distancing.

Departing Rwanda

Visitors to Rwanda will be required to take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to departure.
Guests will be facilitated to take this final test in popular tourist locations including Musanze, Nyagatare, Nyamasheke, Rwamagana and Rubavu.

Visitors can as well be tested in Kigali at Amahoro Stadium “Petit Stade” in Remera and the Rwanda Biomedical Centre Gikondo Branch at the Office of Vaccination Programme on KK 6 Ave.

Note: Departing COVID test cost is USD 50.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the Kigali International Airport at least three hours before their flight departure.
